Nine Gates was the first piece ever created by The Gravity Project (TGP). After two years of studio work, the piece emerged as a meditation on Jane Hirshfield’s seminal collection of essays Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry. All text was contemporary poetry, featuring many of Hirshfield’s poems as well as work by Linda Pastan, Robert Haas, Stephen Dobyns, Denise Levertov, and Annie Dillard. TGP Associate Artistic Director Stephanie Skura worked closely with Andy to compose the movement and dramaturgical stream of this image and sound-rich piece.
